Cannot use cast moderator on basic TV mode

Problem

When attempting to use Cast Moderator with a new Chromecast device, you get the following error message: Cannot use cast moderator on basic TV mode.

Environment

  • Chrome OS

Solution

To use cast moderator, you will need:
  • Cast sender: The device with content you want to share. For example, a managed ChromeOS device or managed Chrome browser on M108 or later.
  • Cast receiver: The device to which you are casting. For example, a Chromecast with Google TV device plugged into a TV or projector.
    • Supported cast receiver devices include:
      • Chromecast with Google TV (HD) available now.
      • Chromecast with Google TV (4K) automatic update coming soon. To receive a cast moderator update earlier, email your serial numbers to cast-moderator@google.com.

Cause

You're not using a supported Cast device.
