Configure rule to prevent sending or receiving emails


How can you configure a routing rule to stop a user sending or receiving emails?


  • Gmail front end and back end


  1. In the Admin Console, click Apps > Google Workspace > Gmail > Routing.
  2. Click Configure or Add another rule and set a name for the routing rule.
  3. Check Inbound and Outbound.
  4. In the second step For the above types of messages, do the following select Reject.
  5. At the bottom of the pop up select Show more.
  6. Mark both Only affect specific envelope senders and Only affect specific envelope recipients and add the email of the person that will be blocked.
  7. Save the changes .

Note: Routing rules do not have propagation time so it should work right away
