Customized screen saver images for Google Meet Hardware

Problem

This guide is on how to configure a custom screensaver or digital signage content for our Google Meet Hardware devices.

Environment

  • Google Meet Hardware

Solution

Prerequisites

  • To display a published Google Slides file as a custom screen saver, in Slides, select File Publish to the web. Click Embed Publish. Copy the src parameter. You'll paste it as the URL in the steps below on this page.
  • To display custom screen saver content, use a publicly-accessible URL with a domain that allows its site to be embedded in an IFRAME.
  • Make sure the Meet hardware power-saving settings keep your displays on during working hours so people see the custom screen saver content. For details, see Manage power-saving settings.
  • Be sure that the content you're publishing does not have any viewing restrictions or your Meet hardware device will be unable to load the content.
  • Use a URL that cycles through different images. A single image can cause a shadow image to burn into the screen over time on certain displays.

Display custom screen saver images

  1. In your Admin console.
  2. Go to Menu > Devices > Google Meet hardware > Devices.
  3. In the Filtered Devices section, click Settings > Google Meet hardware Settings.
  4. Click Device settings.
  5. To apply the setting to all of your devices, leave the top organizational unit selected. Otherwise, select a child organizational unit.
  6. Click Screen saver
  7. Click Custom and enter the URL for your images or messages.
  8. For Start after this many minutes of inactivity, enter a number of minutes. The device is idle for this amount of time before the screen saver turns on.
  9. For Show the Meet home screen this many minutes before the next meeting, enter a number of minutes. The screen saver will turn off for this amount of time before the next scheduled meeting.
  10. Click Save. If you configured a child organizational unit, you might be able to Inherit or Override a parent organizational unit's settings.

Display your Appspace content

Before you can use your Appspace content as a screen saver on your Meet hardware devices, you need to register the devices on Appspace. Then, configure the devices' screen savers to point to the Appspace Progressive Web App (PWA).

Step 1: Register your Appspace content

If you don't pre-register your devices before you change the screen saver, the screen saver will prompt you to pair each device manually using a code displayed in the room.

  1. In your Admin console.
  2. Go to Menu > Devices > Google Meet hardware > Devices.
  3. Filter the devices by organizational unit. For details, go to Choose devices by organizational unit.
  4. Click the device that you want to view or change.
  5. Click the Device information section to expand it.
  6. Copy the Integration ID.
  7. Paste the Integration ID into the Appspace console.
For details, go to Register a device with Appspace.

Step 2: Configure your Meet hardware devices' screen savers

  1. In your Admin console.
