File access in shared drives using DFD or Chrome OS

Problem

You are unable to share, edit or delete files in shared drive using Drive for desktop or Chrome OS file app.

Environment

  • Drive for desktop
  • Chrome OS file app

Solution

  • In Google Drive for desktop or files in the Chrome OS Files app, Contributor access gives only read access to files. To allow users to create, upload, and edit files in a shared drive in Google Drive for desktop and Chrome OS, give the user Content manager or Manager access.
  • Only Managers can delete files through Chrome OS Files app.

Cause

Role permissions do not allow users to edit, share or delete files.
