Google Workspace Add on not showing options on doc

Problem

When you try to use Google Workspace Add on (Smart References) on Google Docs, they are not showing any option to use it on the Extensions > Add-ons > Smart References.

Solution

This behavior can be solved by installing the app for your users or by adding the app to the allowed list on your Admin console, I will proceed to explain you both options.

Include the Add on to the allowed list of apps for your domain by following these steps.
  1. In the Admin console, go to Menu > Apps > Google Workspace Marketplace apps > Apps list.
  2. Click Allowlist app.
  3. Enter the name of the app or search for it on the Marketplace.
  4. Click Select.
  5. Make sure Allow users to install this app is selected.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. (Optional) To allowlist the app for an organizational unit or group:
    1. Select Specific groups or organizational units.
    2. (Optional) To select a group, click Select groups > the group > Save.
    3. (Optional) To select an organizational unit, click Select organizational units > the organizational unit > Save.
    4. To add other groups or organizational units, repeat the steps.
  8. Click Finish.
As well you could install the Google Workspace Marketplace app following these steps.
  1. In the Admin console, go to Menu > Apps > Google Workspace Marketplace apps > Apps list.
  2. Click Add app to Admin Install list.
  3. Browse Google Workspace Marketplace and click the app you want to install.
  4. Click Admin install > Continue.
  5. Review the data access requirements
  6. Choose who to install the app for: 
    • To install the app for everyone in your organization, select Everyone at your organization.
    • To install the app only for certain users, select Certain groups or organizational > units > Next. Then select the organizational units and groups that you want to install the app for. 
  7. Click Finish.

 

Cause

If the app is installed by the user however this is not on the allowed list or approved by an admin it won't shown the add ons dedicated options
