How to confirm Gmail sending limits from a free trial account to a paid subscription

Problem

You are unable to send more than 500 emails in a 24 hour period and receive a bounce back message about the sending limits after exceeding.

Environment

  • Gmail

Solution

After you convert from a free trial account to a paid subscription, your account sending limits automatically increase when both of the following are true:

  • Your domain has cumulatively paid at least a certain amount.
  • At least 60 days have passed since reaching that payment threshold.

To confirm if an account is in trial like limits:

  1. Go to Google Admin for the domain you are checking.
  2. Under Dasher > Customer Information you will see Domain reputation, if the customer is in trial like limits, the reputation will say Trial like.

Cause

To keep systems healthy and accounts safe, Google limits the number of Gmail messages users can send per day, and the number of recipients per message. After the trial period is over, the account is kept with trial-like limits until the requirements are met.
