How to delete Gmail filters

Problem

Your emails are not showing up in your Inbox, and they are only visible from the All mail label.

Environment

  • Gmail Web UI

Solution

To delete a filter on Gmail, follow these steps:

  1. Open Gmail in your web browser.
  2. Click on the gear icon in the upper-right corner and select See all settings from the menu.
  3. Click on the Filters and Blocked Addresses tab.
  4. Find the filter you want to delete.
  5. Click the Delete button at the right of the filter.
  6. Confirm filter deletion by clicking OK in the pop up window.

Note that deleting a filter will remove it completely, and any messages that were previously filtered by that rule will no longer be affected by it.

Cause

An existing filter is moving messages from one label to another that you cannot see.
