How to force Chrome browser to complete an update

Problem

You notice a device fails to update after the download completes. Users have not relaunched the browser to complete the installation, and you would like to force them to do so.

Environment

  • Chrome browser
  • Chrome OS

Solution

Use Policy Relaunch Notification to force users to relaunch Chrome after a period of time.
  1. Sign in to the Admin console.
  2. Navigate to Devices > Chrome.
  3. On the left, click on Settings > Users & browsers.
  4. Look for the policy Relaunch Notification
  5. Select Force relaunch after a period.
  6. Add the time, in hours, the system will wait until it forces users to restart.
