How to update your MX records to work with Gmail

Problem

You need to update your domain's MX records to work with Gmail since you are not receiving emails at all.

Environment

  • Gmail

Solution

You must add and manage MX records using the administrative tools at your domain host, not your Google Admin console. To do please follow the steps described below:
  1. Find your domain host for specific instructions.
  2. In your domain host system, add a new MX record.
  3. From the Type list, select MX.
  4. In the Host field, enter @.  (If @ causes an error leave this field blank).
  5. In the Points to field, enter: SMTP.GOOGLE.COM
  6. In the Priority field, enter 1.
  7. In the TTL field, leave the default value.
  8. Click Save.
    • If you signed up for Google Workspace prior to April 2023, instead of SMTP.GOOGLE.COM, please enter the following MX server address values and priorities from the table below:
      Value                            Priority

      ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM                  1

      ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM             5

      ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM             5

      ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM             10

      ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM             10
