Unable to add external member to a Chat space

Problem

You are not able to add an external member into a Space already created with external sharing enabled.

Environment

  • Spaces in Google Chat

Solution

You have to provide the steps to the external user, which will allow them to create a Google account:
  1. Go to the Google sign in page.
  2. Click Create account.
  3. Enter your name.
  4. Click Use my current email address instead.
  5. Enter your current email address.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Verify your email address with the code sent to your existing email.
  8. Click Verify.

Cause

The external user does not have a Google account.
