Understand a Dropbox data import report

In the Google Admin console, you can review a report with detailed information on the items in your Dropbox data import.

Access the report

  1. In the Google Admin console, go to Menu and then Data and then Data import & export and then Data import.

    You must be signed in as a super administrator for this task.

  2. For Dropbox, click Import.
  3. Click View data import logs.
  4. If the Tasks list doesn't open automatically with the report, click Tasks.
  5. For Your Tasks, click the link to open the report in Google Sheets.

Review the data import report

Use the data import report to identify items that didn't import and why.

Error report field Description
Status The item's import status (for example, warning, error).
Error or warning code and description

The code and message associated with the error or warning message.

Processing start time When the item started to import.
Processing end time When the item import was complete.

Need admin approval

The data import tool wasn't able to connect to your Dropbox account.

  1. Verify that the Dropbox administrator account has the Team admin role.
  2. Run a delta import.
Failed to crawl parent item permissions while crawling permissions for Drive ID drive_id and source ItemId item_id A temporary error. Run a delta import.
Failed to crawl folder as one of the upstream dependency task for Drive id: drive_id, Folder id: folder_id has failed

A parent folder failed to import, and it wasn't possible to crawl any of its child folders.

  1. Search the report for the listed folder ID to find out why the parent folder failed to import.
  2. Correct the error in the parent folder.
  3. Run a delta import.
Found Dropbox folder with restricted permissions. Drive id: drive_id, Item id: item_id You can't import restricted files and folders from Dropbox.
Internal error occurred To correct a transient error, run a delta import.
Found entries missing in the identity mapping for <username>

A Dropbox user isn't mapped to a Workspace user in the identity map.

  1. Remove the identity map.
  2. Add the missing Dropbox user and corresponding Workspace user.
  3. Upload the identity map again.

The item shared with "Anyone with link" on the source could not be shared with the same setting on the target file on Google Drive An item with the Anyone with link setting couldn't be imported because external file sharing is turned off in Workspace or link permissions are restricted. Update the link permission settings and turn on external file sharing.
Target email not found The email address provided in the identity map doesn't exist in Workspace. Create the user in Workspace and run a delta import.
