What's imported for chats?

The data import tool copies chat messages from channels in Microsoft Teams to Google Workspace. Importing chats doesn't delete or modify existing Google Chat spaces or messages, but not all features in Teams are supported. Review the following table for details.

Imported features & data

Channel Space
Channel manager or owner

Space manager

If there are multiple managers or owners for a team, only one becomes the space manager in Google Workspace. The other managers and owners become regular space members.

Channel name

Space name

After an import, the space name is the team name and channel name separated by a hyphen. For example, if the channel and team name are General and then My team, the space name is General-My team following an import.
