When you try to create a group, you might see this alert: "You do not have permission to create a group for this domain. Contact your IT Admin for more information. Learn more"
This message means that your administrator has restricted group creation for your internal domain.
Administrators
If you see this error while signed in as an administrator, this means that the group creation restriction is inadvertently being applied to administrators. This is a known issue, and Google is working to correct this behavior.
To create groups, you can use the Google Admin console. See Create a group.
Non-administrator users
If you're seeing this alert, read the information below to understand your options for creating a group in your domain or in the public googlegroups.com domain.
Create a group in a restricted domain
When you click the domain list during group creation, you might see one or more domains grayed out. These are the internal domains for which your administrator has blocked group creation.
To create a group in an internal domain that's grayed out, contact your administrator for assistance.
Create a group in googlegroups.com
On the domain list, you might see that the domain googlegroups.com isn't grayed out. This is a public domain, which means that people outside of your organization can access it. If you create a group in this public domain and add people from your organization, any conversations among the members are at risk of being seen by the public. This might include confidential information.
You can create a group in googlegroups.com and add people from your organization, as long as you understand the risk. Alternatively, you can create a group in googlegroups.com using your personal Gmail account. To do so, sign out of your Google Workspace account and sign back in to Google Groups using your personal Gmail address.
