Important: We're gradually rolling out this feature, so it might not be available to you just yet.
As an administrator of your organization's Google Accounts, you can control whether teachers and students can use Gemini features with Google Classroom. Gemini in Classroom is available for users of all ages, based on how you configure your institution's age-based access settings. Just turn the service on or off for those users in your Google Admin console.
Feature availability & prerequisites
- Supported editions—Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals, Standard, and Plus.
- Regional & language availability—Available globally in all Classroom-supported languages where Gemini is supported.
- Default setting—Gemini in Classroom is ON by default for users of all ages. If you previously turned it off for students under 18, it will remain off until you change the setting.
Before you begin
To ensure students can view and access Gemini features in Google Classroom:
- Verify that the user's role is defined as Student in Google Classroom.
- Set Gemini in Classroom to On in your Admin console.
- Turn on at least one underlying generative AI service: Gemini (app), Gemini Notebook (NotebookLM), or both.
Note: Students do not need both the Gemini app and Gemini Notebook enabled to see the Gemini tab. However, if both services are set to Off, the Gemini tab will be completely hidden in Google Classroom even if Gemini in Classroom is set to On.
