We don't want someone else to use your domain to sign up for Google Workspace. You can help us keep your domain safe by showing us that you are the owner.
When to verify your domain
If your account is managed by a reseller, your domain has already been verified. No further steps are needed.
You can verify your domain when you sign up for Workspace. You can either:
- Update the settings for your domain at your domain registrar—To identify your registrar, go to Identify your domain registrar.
- Use generic steps to verify with a TXT record—For steps, go to Verify your domain with a TXT record.
You must verify your domain within the first 9 days of your free trial period, or when starting a paid contract. If you don't verify your domain, your account will be automatically deleted within 21 days of signup. However, if you have set up billing and have an active subscription, the account won't be deleted.
If you sign up for Workspace with an email address, you can verify your domain later. If you sign up with:
- A business email address—Go to Verify your domain to unlock features (for business email accounts).
- A personal Gmail address—Go to Verify your domain to unlock features (for Gmail accounts).

How do I get my verification code from Google Workspace?
- Make sure you're signed in to your Google Workspace administrator account.
- Open the Google Workspace setup tool.
- Follow instructions at the tool to find your verification code and enter it at your domain registrar.
Who is my domain registrar?
Usually, your domain registrar is the company where you bought your domain or the company that hosts your website.

Why does Google make me update my DNS records?
DNS records are the best way to ensure that the owner of a domain is the one who's signing up for Google Workspace. Other verification methods, such as HTML strings or meta tags, can be used by malicious actors to create fraudulent Google Workspace accounts.
Is my domain verified?
If you haven't verified your primary domain, you'll see a Set up Admin Console prompt at the top of the Admin console dashboard that will walk you through the steps to verify.
To check if a secondary domain is verified, follow these steps:

How long does verification take?
Adding your Google Workspace verification record takes about 10 minutes. The time it takes for your verification record to become active depends on your domain host. After your records are active, it can take up to one hour for us to confirm you added the record, but it usually happens quickly.
How can I avoid getting locked out of my account?
If you use one-time passwords, they will stop working after your Google Workspace email setup is complete. You must create a new password for this account before you set up MX records and activate Gmail:
- Go to accounts.google.com.
- In the upper right, click your Profile picture Sign out.
- Open the setup tool and follow the on-screen instructions to create a new password.
After you create a password, you can start setting up MX records for your organization.
