If you have a Google Workspace for Nonprofits subscription and want to get more features, such as advanced Gemini tools and administrative controls for certain users, you can upgrade those users to a paid Business edition at a discounted price.
Discount prices for nonprofits
The following discounts are available to organizations in the Google for Nonprofits program who have a Workspace for Nonprofits subscription and are no longer in their free trial. Prices apply monthly for each upgraded user.
- Business Standard—75+% off the standard price
- Business Plus—72+% off the standard price
How upgrading works
- You keep 100 TB total storage for your organization and get an additional 2 TB of pooled storage for each upgraded user.
- For each upgraded user, you’re billed monthly on the Flexible billing plan.
- After you upgrade users, you can turn on automatic license assignment for new users and choose whether these users get licenses to your Nonprofits subscription or your new Business subscription. For the steps, go to Automatically assign licenses to all users.
- If you have some users with Workspace for Nonprofits licenses and some with Business licenses, you can't upgrade your Business subscription to an Enterprise edition in the Google Admin console. To upgrade to an Enterprise edition, contact Google Workspace support or Google sales.
Upgrade users from a Nonprofits subscription
If you have up to 2,000 Workspace for Nonprofits users, follow these steps to upgrade users directly in the Admin console. If you have more than 2,000 Workspace for Nonprofits users, to upgrade users, contact Google Workspace support or Google sales.
-
In the Google Admin console, go to Menu
Billing
Buy or upgrade.
Requires having the Billing management privilege.
- For the edition you want, click Upgrade.
- Depending on the available option, choose an action:
- Next to Upgrade all users to the selected edition, click Manage
Some users.
- Next to Only you have access, click Assign to more users.
- Next to Upgrade all users to the selected edition, click Manage
- Enter all the users' names or email addresses
click Continue.
- Enter your billing information
click Upgrade now.
- To avoid charges for previously purchased Drive and Vault licenses, check and remove any of these licenses from users who upgraded to a Workspace for Business license. For the steps, go to Assign, remove, and reassign licenses.
- If you're using Vault, go to Set up Vault for your organization.
Switch user licenses
After you upgrade users, you can assign additional Business licenses to Workspace for Nonprofits users or reassign Nonprofits licenses to Business users, at any time. We update your monthly payment based on any new license assignments. For details, go to Assign and remove licenses.
If you assign Business licenses to all your users, we cancel your Workspace for Nonprofits subscription, resulting in loss of features, such as 100 TB of storage. You also can't switch users back to a Workspace for Nonprofits license. To reassign Workspace for Nonprofits licenses, you need to downgrade your subscription. For the steps, go to Downgrade to Google Workspace for Nonprofits.
