Turn Gemini app conversation sharing on or off

As an administrator, you control whether your users can share their Gemini conversations with others, both outside and inside your organization. When you enable conversation sharing, users can share chats, Canvases, and generated media from the Gemini app.

Additionally, when a user shares a conversation, it's shared as a snapshot of the conversation up to that point in time. If the recipient chooses to continue the chat, changes are not reflected in the owner's chat.

Using public links to share conversations is turned off by default. If you turn it on and conversations are shared, anyone with the link can read the conversation, even if the link is not shared with them directly.

If you later turn this setting off, users can no longer share links to conversations. However, previously shared links will be accessible until they are deleted from the Gemini app. For details, go to Share your chats from Gemini Apps.

Use Drive to share conversations

Using Drive to share conversation is turned on by default. Your Drive sharing settings apply to all conversations shared from the Gemini app. For example, if you disable external sharing in Drive, users can't share conversations with people outside your organization.

Turn conversation sharing on or off

  1. In the Google Admin console, go to Menu and then Generative AI and then Gemini app.

    Requires having the Gemini Settings administrator privilege.

  2. Click Sharing
  3. Scroll to Conversation sharing and select:
    • Allow conversation sharing via link. Users can send publicly accessible links to their conversations. Anyone who has a link can view the conversation.
    • Allow conversation sharing via Drive. Conversations are shared through Google Drive. Your organization's Drive sharing settings apply to all conversations.
  4. (Optional) To apply the setting only to some users, at the side, select an organizational unit (often used for departments) or configuration group (advanced).

  5. Click Save.
