Your organization's use of generative AI features in Google Workspace is subject to usage limits. These limits are based on which Google Workspace edition you're using. To increase feature access and limits for specific users or organizational units, purchase one of the following add-ons:
- AI Expanded Access for business and enterprise users
- Google AI Pro for Education for education users
How does the use of AI features affect usage limits?
There are several types of actions that count against AI usage limits. Examples include:
- Users ask AI to do work. This happens when they do things like:
- Use Google Vids to generate videos.
- Use Nano Banana to generate images in Google Slides or Vids.
- Use the AI function in Google Sheets.
- Generate audio overviews in Gemini, Gemini Notebook, and Google Drive.
- Using Google Workspace Studio to create and run flows.
When limits reset
AI usage limits reset on a daily or monthly cadence, depending on the feature.
- Daily limits reset at 12 AM PT (Pacific Time, UTC-8) each day.
- Monthly limits reset at 12 AM PT (Pacific Time, UTC-8) on the first day of each month.
Usage limits don't roll over, and they can't be shared with other people.
Promotional access to new AI features: As we launch advanced AI features, Workspace customers may get increased access before usage limits are enforced. Users get a notification when they use features with higher promotional access.

Frequently asked questions
General questions
If I don't get the response I want, does a follow-up prompt count toward my monthly limit?
Yes. If the prompt is successful and generates a response, it counts toward your monthly limit. Follow-up prompts in the same conversation, such as a request to "try again," also count toward the limit.
Are limits shared or pooled across the organization?
Limits apply to each user and aren't shared.
Feature-specific questions
How do limits work for Gemini features in Google Docs such as match document formatting and match writing style?
Limits for these features are counted each time a prompt uses one or both of them. For example, if you submit a prompt that includes a request to match both a document format and a writing style, this counts as one use.
These features reference a specific asset to help create or refine a document. For details, go to Create personalized documents with Gemini in Google Docs.
How do limits work for Gemini and the AI function in Sheets?
Gemini limits in Sheets are per-prompt limits. AI function limits are per-cell generation limits.
Do all prompts in Sheets count toward monthly usage limits?
No. Simple prompts, such as asking how to use a certain formula or where to find a cell value, don't count toward monthly limits.
However, prompts that invoke Sheets actions, such as building a new sheet, creating a new sheet with analysis of data, and multi-step reasoning that builds or analyzes sheets typically count toward monthly usage limits.
Does slide generation count toward monthly limits for image generation in Google Slides?
No. Slide generation is a separate feature that does not count toward image generation limits.
If I reach my monthly image generation limits with Nano Banana Pro in Google Slides and Vids, will I still be able to generate images?
Yes, images will be generated using an earlier model. Some capabilities available only with Nano Banana Pro (such as infographics) might not be available.
Is the limit for Nano Banana Pro shared across the Gemini app, Vids, Gemini Notebook, and Google Slides?
No. The monthly limit for Nano Banana Pro is shared across Google Workspace apps, including Vids and Google Slides. Usage in the Gemini app and Gemini Notebook is tracked separately.
