Assign Looker Studio Pro licenses to users

Before users in your organization can use Looker Studio Pro, they need a license for the service. It can take up to 24 hours for a user's license to be active.

Assign licenses

Before you begin: Make sure that you have the Looker Studio additional Google service turned on for your organization or the organizational units or access groups that will be using Looker Studio Pro. For details, go to Turn Looker Studio on or off for users.

Option 1: Assign licenses to individual users

To complete these steps, you need the appropriate User management privilege. Without the correct privilege, you won't see all the controls needed to complete these steps.
  1. In the Google Admin console, go to Menu and then Directory and then Users.

  2. Check the box next to each user who needs a license.
  3. At the top, click Assign licenses and then Looker Studio Pro.
  4. Click Assign.

Option 2: Assign licenses to all users in a CSV file

To complete these steps, you need the appropriate User management privilege. Without the correct privilege, you won't see all the controls needed to complete these steps.

Before you begin: Create a comma-separated values (CSV) file with the full email address of each user who needs a license. Add one address per line.

  1. In the Google Admin console, go to Menu and then Directory and then Users.

  2. At the top, click Bulk update users.
  3. In the Bulk update users box, click Attach CSV File.
  4. Select the file and click Open and then Upload.

Option 3: Assign licenses to users in an organizational unit or access group

To complete these steps, you need the appropriate User management privilege. Without the correct privilege, you won't see all the controls needed to complete these steps.

Important: Assigning licenses to an organizational unit only gives users in that organizational unit a license. Users in child organizational units aren't assigned a license.

  1. In the Google Admin console, go to Menu and then Directory and then Users.

  2. At the side, select the organizational unit or access group that you want to assign licenses to. You can also search for an organizational unit or group.
  3. In the Users list, check the boxes for the names that you want to assign licenses to.
  4. At the top, click Assign licenses and then Looker Studio Pro.
  5. Click Assign.

View the users who have licenses

  1. In the Google Admin console, go to Menu and then Directory and then Users.

  2. Click Add a filter and then Assigned license and then Looker Studio Pro.
  3. Click Apply.

Remove licenses

To complete these steps, you need the appropriate User management privilege. Without the correct privilege, you won't see all the controls needed to complete these steps.
  1. In the Google Admin console, go to Menu and then Directory and then Users.

  2. To remove Colab licenses from individual users:
    1. Check the box next to each user.
    2. At the top, click More options and then Remove Licenses and then Looker Studio Pro.
    3. Click Remove.
  3. To remove Colab licenses from all users in an organizational unit:
    1. On the left, click Users from select organizational units and select the organizational unit.
    2. At the top, click More options and then Remove Licenses and then Looker Studio Pro.
    3. Click Remove.

Automatically assign licenses to new users

To automatically assign Looker Studio Pro licenses to new users in your organization, go to Automatically assign licenses to all users.
