Adding Google Beam as a feature to a room resource gives a way for users to find and schedule rooms with Beam-enabled devices when creating meeting invites. This is important because 3D Beam meetings require devices for both participants.
Google Workspace
Follow these instructions if you use Workspace to manage your resources and calendars.
Create the feature tag
To create the Google Beam feature tag:
-
In the Google Admin console, go to Menu
Directory
Buildings and resources
Overview.
Requires having the Buildings and resources administrator privilege.
- In the Resource management section, click Open.
- Click Manage resource features.
- Click Add Feature.
- Enter "Google Beam" as the feature name and select Video conferencing from the Feature type list.
- Click Save.
Add the feature to a room resource
To make searching on the feature tag possible, you need to add it to each room resource.
-
In the Google Admin console, go to Menu
Directory
Buildings and resources
Manage resources.
Requires having the Buildings and resources administrator privilege.
- From the list of resources, choose the room you want to add Google Beam to.
- Click in the Features panel and add Google Beam as a feature.
- Click Save.
You can verify that the feature is working correctly by creating a meeting in Google Calendar and adding the room resource. The calendar entry should show "Google Beam" next to the video icon.
Microsoft Outlook
To make Beam rooms searchable, you need to add properties to them. Follow the steps in the Microsoft documentation, setting the following properties:
- Set the Tag property to Google Beam.
- Add Google Beam to the room name.
Make sure to set these properties consistently for all Beam rooms. Doing so makes them searchable on "Google Beam" under Location when creating a meeting invite.
