This page describes differences in the experience between using Google Beam and Google Meet hardware with Meet.
3D call behavior
- 3D calls can take up to 45 seconds to start.
- Self view in 3D calls isn't available.
3D calls don't work with more than one person per Beam room.
3D calls are designed for 1:1 meetings between 2 Beam rooms. For meetings involving more than one person in the same Beam room, tap Switch to Meet on the touchscreen to switch to a standard meeting. This ensures a stable and expected meeting experience for all participants.
Presentation mode behavior
These differences only apply to 3D Beam calls. Presentation mode in standard video calls is the same as in Meet.
- Presentation mode on Beam doesn't support the following
features:
- Playing audio from what is being presented
- Presenting from an instant meeting
- Self view and picture-in-picture
- Pinning a second window
- Sharing content can conflict with other participants' feeds. The user who is presenting should stop sharing before the next person shares their content.
- Presentation mode requires login. To ensure successful presentations, check
the following settings:
- Account: Confirm that the user presenting is signed into their laptop and has joined the meeting with the appropriate account in Companion mode. If they join from a laptop as a regular participant, the meeting will switch to a standard video call.
- Meeting code: Verify that the user is trying to present with the correct meeting code.
- Reconnect: If issues persist, try reconnecting to the call.
Meeting settings
Waiting rooms aren't supported.
To avoid stranding users or disconnecting them, don't set up waiting rooms for meetings in Beam rooms.
Device management
- Unlike Google Meet hardware, Beam devices don't show the status of each peripheral in the Google Admin console. They only show aggregated peripheral status.
