Allow Meet hardware to join third-party video conferencing services

You can let Google Meet hardware devices join Webex, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams calls at no additional cost. Using Webex, Zoom, and Teams with a Meet hardware device provides core video conferencing functionality.

This feature is on by default. For your Meet hardware devices to connect to these third-party services, your network's firewall might need specific configurations. If your organization uses a restricted network, you can get the required URLs, IP addresses, and port information from the third-party service provider (Webex, Zoom, or Teams) and update your firewall settings accordingly.

Turn Zoom interoperability on or off

You can allow Meet hardware devices to join Zoom calls at no additional cost. This feature is turned on by default.

Before you begin: If you need to set up a department or team for this setting, go to Add an organizational unit.

  1. In the Google Admin console, go to Menu and then Devices and then Google Meet hardware and then Settings.

    Some features may require having the Meet hardware Manage organizational unit settings privilege.

  2. (Optional) To apply the setting to a department or team, at the side, select an organizational unit.

  3. In the Device Settings tab, go to the Built-in Interoperability section and click Zoom.

  4. Click Save. Or, you might click Override for an organizational unit.

    To later restore the inherited value, click Inherit.

Turn Cisco Webex interoperability on or off

You can allow Meet hardware devices to join Webex calls at no additional cost. This feature is turned on by default.

Before you begin: If you need to set up a department or team for this setting, go to Add an organizational unit.

  1. In the Google Admin console, go to Menu and then Devices and then Google Meet hardware and then Settings.

    Some features may require having the Meet hardware Manage organizational unit settings privilege.

  2. (Optional) To apply the setting to a department or team, at the side, select an organizational unit.

  3. In the Device Settings tab, go to the Built-in Interoperability section and click Cisco Webex.

  4. Click Save. Or, you might click Override for an organizational unit.

Turn Microsoft Teams interoperability on or off

You can allow Meet hardware devices to join Microsoft Teams calls at no additional cost. Microsoft Teams Direct Guest Join is turned on by default for your organization's users, including all organizational units.

Before you begin: If you need to set up a department or team for this setting, go to Add an organizational unit.

  1. In the Google Admin console, go to Menu and then Devices and then Google Meet hardware and then Settings.

    Some features may require having the Meet hardware Manage organizational unit settings privilege.

  2. (Optional) To apply the setting to a department or team, at the side, select an organizational unit.

  3. In the Device Settings tab, go to the Built-in Interoperability section, and under Microsoft Teams, select Enabled.

  4. Click Save. Or, you might click Override for an organizational unit.

    To later restore the inherited value, click Inherit.

Turn Pexip Connect for Google Rooms on or off

You can allow Meet hardware devices to join SIP meetings using Pexip Connect. This feature can be purchased from authorized resellers or through the Cloud Marketplace.

You can also use Teams Direct Guest Join. If you have existing Pexip Connect configurations and you've assigned specific organizational units to use Pexip, these settings aren't overridden.

Before you begin: If you need to set up a department or team for this setting, go to Add an organizational unit.

  1. In the Google Admin console, go to Menu and then Devices and then Google Meet hardware and then Settings.

    Some features may require having the Meet hardware Manage organizational unit settings privilege.

  2. (Optional) To apply the setting to a department or team, at the side, select an organizational unit.

  3. In the Device Settings tab, go to the Built-in Interoperability section and then click SIP to turn on SIP calling.

  4. Add your Pexip Customer ID in the box. You can get this value from Pexip.

  5. Click Save. Or, you might click Override for an organizational unit.

    To later restore the inherited value, click Inherit.

  6. Repeat these steps to enable rooms in different organizational units.

  7. To verify Pexip Connect is enabled, tap Enter a code or nickname on the Google Meet hardware room controller. The SIP option should appear in the drop-down menu.

Unsupported third-party conference features on Meet hardware

When using Google Meet hardware to join third-party video conferences, such as Zoom or Webex, the control tablet won't give access to the third-party platform's equipment controls (such as Crestron). In addition, the zoomgov.com subdomain is not supported for Zoom on Meet.

If you join a third-party meeting from a Meet hardware device, you won't have access to certain features, including:

Allow Meet hardware devices to join Zoom calls without being admitted by a host

By default, to join a Zoom call using a Meet hardware device, participants must be admitted by a host already in the meeting. As an administrator, you can allow Meet hardware devices to join Zoom calls without asking by generating an interoperability token in the Zoom web portal and adding it to the Google Workspace Admin console.

Step 1: Generate an interoperability token in the Zoom web portal

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal as an admin with the privilege to edit Zoom Rooms settings.
  2. To generate a token, click Account Management and then Account Settings and then Meeting and then Allow my organization's 3rd party conference room systems to join my Zoom meetings as an authorized user.
  3. Copy the token; it won't be shown again.

Step 2: Add the token to the Google Admin console

  1. In the Google Admin console, go to Menu and then Devices and then Google Meet hardware and then Settings.

    Some features may require having the Meet hardware Manage organizational unit settings privilege.

  2. In the Service settings section, click Built-in interoperability direct access.
  3. Paste the token you generated in the Zoom web portal in the section for Zoom Waiting Room bypass.
  4. Click Save.
  5. We expect this feature to be able to bypass the Only authenticated users can join meetings Zoom setting in a future release.
