Pair Google Voice with telephony options
There are 2 components to Google Voice: the Google Voice software, which includes the app and its features, and the telephony service and phone number. Depending on your organization's needs, there are 3 ways to buy the telephony service component—from Google, through a local carrier, or by connecting your own carrier and Session Border Controller (SBC):
| Google calling plan | Carrier Link | SIP Link | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How does it work? | Google provides your numbers and calling service, included in your subscription. | A certified local carrier provides your numbers and calling service, preconfigured for Google Voice. | Connect your existing carrier contract and telephony equipment (such as an SBC) to Google Voice. |
| Who bills you for the Voice software subscription? | Google (if buying directly) or your reseller | Google (if buying directly) or your reseller | Your reseller |
| Who bills you for calling? | The Carrier Link partner | Your carrier | |
| Telephony equipment (such as an SBC) required? | No | No | Yes |
| Setup | Simplest—all in the Admin console | Simple—preconfigured by the partner | Advanced—you configure the connection |
| Best for | Organizations that want one provider for everything | Organizations that want a local carrier without managing hardware | Organizations with existing telephony infrastructure and a carrier contract |
| Available in | 14 countries | 34 countries | 34 countries |
Availability by country
The subscription you need to buy depends on 2 things: the country your organization is in and how you want to get your phone service. Compare the buying options, then find your country in the table to determine which subscription to buy.

Note: To use SIP Link in one of the 14 countries that uses the Voice Starter, Standard, or Premier subscriptions, you need Voice Standard or Voice Premier. Voice Starter isn't eligible for SIP Link—it's only compatible with Google calling plans and Carrier Link.
How to get started
| If you want... | Then... |
|---|---|
| A Google calling plan | Add Voice to Google Workspace in the Admin console. |
| Carrier Link | Contact a certified Carrier Link partner. They set up your subscriptions and phone numbers. For details, go to How Carrier Link works. |
| SIP Link |
If you're buying service in a country that uses the Voice Starter, Standard, or Premier subscriptions, you can buy directly from Google in the Admin console, or buy from a reseller through Partner Search. If you're buying service in a country that uses the SIP Link Standard or Premier subscriptions, you can only buy through Partner Search—you can't add these subscriptions in the Admin console. This option requires you to bring your own telecom carrier that is integrated with a certified SBC. For details, go to SIP Link requirements. |
If your organization operates in more than one country, you can use different options in different countries. For example, you might use a Google calling plan in one country, Carrier Link in another, and SIP Link in a third.
Examples
My organization is in Germany and wants Google to provide our numbers.
Google calling plans are available in Germany. Buy Voice Starter, Voice Standard, or Voice Premier in the Admin console and get numbers directly from Google.
My organization is in the U.S. and wants to keep working with a local carrier, without managing any hardware.
Use Carrier Link. In the U.S., you need Voice Starter, Voice Standard, or Voice Premier. Contact a certified Carrier Link partner to get started. For details, go to How Carrier Link works.
My organization is in Australia and wants to use Google Voice.
Google calling plans aren't available in Australia. Choose Carrier Link (if you don't have telephony equipment) or SIP Link (if you have your own SBC and carrier contract). Either way, you need SIP Link Standard or SIP Link Premier.
My organization is in France and already has an SBC and a carrier contract.
Use SIP Link. In France, add Voice Standard or Voice Premier in the Admin console, then connect your carrier. Voice Starter doesn't support SIP Link.
